The city and Dana Point Chamber of Commerce are encouraging residents to shop on Del Prado Avenue during ongoing construction with a 10-month raffle offering luxury hotel stays and wine cruises.
The Shop Del Prado campaign kicks off today. The goal is to drive traffic to the 100 restaurants and shops lining Del Prado. Construction is expected to finish in September and will convert the road to two-way traffic as part of the Town Center revitalization effort.
“While everyone is looking forward to the completed beautification project … we hope to encourage the community to support our local merchants,” Community Development Director Ursula Luna-Reynosa wrote in a statement.
For every $10 a customer spends each month at eligible Del Prado businesses, they will get one drawing entry. One winner will be chosen randomly at the end of every month by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce. Winners will receive prize packages. For example, January’s prize includes an overnight stay at the St. Regis Monarch Beach, dinner for two at Salt Creek Grille and two wine cruises from Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching. The raffle each month will offer different prizes. All the prizes so far have been donated.
Customers can enter by showing their receipts at the chamber office or emailing them to email@example.com.
“It encourages more people, besides just Dana Point residents, to shop Del Prado,” project coordinator Julie Edwards said.
The city, Town Center businesses and other groups have been brainstorming ways to help the area’s shops for months. Edwards was hired by the city in September to market the campaign.
“I think people get intimidated by construction work,” Edwards said. She said it may be the appearance that creates a problem.
The drawings will continue through October. A website to accompany the campaign is expected to launch today at dplanterndistrict.com.
